Good day all for information

PIRACY, ROOT CAUSES TO BE EXAMINED.

The ICLN – International Criminal Law Network will convene for its 8Th annual meeting on 10Th December 2009 at the World Forum Convention Centre in the Hague, Netherlands.

The main topic and objective of the meeting is to establish root causes of piracy to determine what can be done to secure long lasting effective remedies against pirate attacks on merchant marine vessels. Other topics to be discussed will be:

 Improving the security of seafarers
 Handling piracy from a national perspective
 Limitations of military intervention
 Deleterious effect on world trade
 Effects on insurance

It is appreciated that a series internationally agreed short, medium and long term measures will need to be put in place for effective management of piracy acts to rid the oceans of such threats. Thus the wide ranging significance of the conference will be the effect of piracy on all stakeholders, and, of the need for multifaceted measures in neutralizing it.

It is expected that the audience will comprise of, government officials, lawyer, policymakers, law enforcement agencies, members of the academe, security experts – national and international, regional representatives, shipping industry stakeholders and the likes.

Please visit the ICLN site for their contact details. http://www.icln.net/index.php?option=com_contact&Itemid=3
